The exhibition titled “URBANFUSE” will feature the artworks of ten artists inside the exhibition pavilion in Gertrud-Kolmar-Str. 14 in Berlin-Mitte (more than 300 sqm, towards the Brandenburger Gate and the Tiergarten) from April 26th to May 18th 2013, thus beginning together with the Berlin Gallery Weekend.

The selected artists of the exhibition consist of five alumni of the New York Academy of Art as well as three students of the Berlin Weissensee School of Art and two alumni. Three of the alumni of the NYAA have had the opportunity to create the artworks for the exhibition during a three months stay in Berlin as artists in residence. The appartment and the studios of the residing artists are also located in a central and thematically important urban position, in Katzbachstrasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

The artworks of the exhibition have developed in the thematic exchange of the students and alumni of the two art academies, influences by New York City and Berlin will be displayed and joined – as an „urban fuse”.

The participating students of Kunsthochschule Weissensee were selected with the support of Prof. Werner Liebmann. The residents from New York were selected in close cooperation with the New York Academy of Art, namely Peter Drake (Dean of Academic Affairs), following an official submission. The exhibition takes place with the friendly support of the U.S. Embassy in Berlin.

The exhibition as well as the residency are being organized by Matthias Bergemann and Janine Biermann in cooperation with the New York Academy of Art.
